Life Secrets: Trump, Pokemon Go and Stealing Joy

Life Secrets: Trump, Pokemon Go and Stealing Joy.

Like millions of others, I watched the Republican Convention speeches with curiosity. Head-scratching curiosity filled with questions: how did we get to this juncture in history? What the hell is going to happen next? Why this, why now?

Those questions about Trump are equally valid about Pokemon Go. When something goes so big, so viral, to the tune of 10 million downloads of a game within days, it gives pause. Like millions of others, I downloaded the app, headed outside to the garden to figure out what the fuss was about. Within seconds of creating a cute, superheroish/feminist warrior avatar, little zombies appeared on my screen. Were my neighbors’ kids across the street playing? I found it instantly creepy and invasive. What scared me more was realizing I’m in the minority. I won’t be playing Pokemon Go anytime soon and here’s why.

My thoughts turned to Government surveillance conspiracy? Why stop at the CIA or the U.S., the game has users globally. The reach of global data mining is staggering. Imagine giving up control of your phone and camera and nearly all app permissions according to TechCrunch. This is no less than control of a New World Order. My suspicions quickly confirmed legal rights are being revoked and worse.

Was I the only one thinking that Pokemon Go and Trump shared something in common? Late to the party again. Oh boy, this is getting  surreal

And this dear ones is how we get so distracted and zombified, we don’t know who to vote for, what is real and what really matters.

There is only one way to take back your power, your life and your true joy. The secret to life, happiness and everything worth knowing resides within. The secret is unstealable. It can’t be coerced, manipulated or diluted. No one can plunk down an AHA moment on a silver platter or a digital screen. The joy of a real AHA moment comes from experiencing it yourself, for real and not virtual.

Everything I write seems labored and heavy. So I’m going to try to simplify my feelings. Pokemon has been around for 20+ years. The Pokemon Go! app is no more harmful than any other app. Please pay attention while using the app and do not play Pokemon Go! or any game while driving.
Donald Trump is using fear to get elected President. Anyone who manipulate people by playing on their fear of the different or the “other” is dangerous to the country and the world. He says he wants to make America great again. The word “again” implies the past. When in America’s past was it great for everyone? Women didn’t get the vote until 1920, the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. So when does Donald Trump was to go back to? We can’t allow fear to destroy us. A vote for Trump is a vote for fear.
I think the hardest thing in the world to do is to trust. When we are ask to trust the future we are being ask to trust the unknown. The idea that there’s a strong man that can make everything come out all right is very seductive….and a lie. If we want a future that’s bright, happy and safe, we have to look to ourselves for it. Together people of goodwill can create the future we dream of. But we have to fight our own fear and listen to that inner voice that tells us what’s right. It won’t be easy but it will be better than living in the dark.

I beg to differ about Pokemon Go. Look at the TOS for Pokemon Go VS. other games. The original card game was harmless, the app is not but the onus is on the user to select settings.

Fear-mongering is at the heart of all politics. It won’t be any different with Hilary. Yes, our day to day world is influenced by our thoughts, rippling out into the world with our action. We can choose fear or love.

I dont use a cellphone on a regular basis. I use an old one while walking and I can dial 911. Yes, I am odd, but when I leave the house, I leave the house and that includes the phone. I have a landline with an answering machine.
As for Pokemon Go……… I do have an opinion (as I do on everything of course) Pokemon Go can have some benefits and a whole lot of drawbacks. I follow a lot of folks, and see some joy for those who do not have much. I see movement by those who need it. I follow a few who have cancer, and their small joy has been to find the silly Pokemon things near their treatment facility. I also see the same folks who were otherwise depressed have their mind distracted by the game. For some, perhaps the game, trumps the potential of tracking. But as any good conspiracy I also believe ANY cellphone use enables tracking. You can be found within feet of your location…….. making a phone call, getting a text, playing a game, taking a picture, what have you. That is also one reason I dont use a cellphone to be honest.

As for politics…………normally I dont discuss it but since youre pretty cool, I will. Keep in mind, I am not ‘pro’ anyone right now although I am leaning one way. Trump I think has being president on his bucket list. Really, his best VP would be Gary Busey so at least I can get a laugh. As for Hillary, also being a good conspiracy theorist, there are theories out there former employees have met suspicious deaths due to ‘knowing too much’ So Hillary who broke the law and isnt being charged is also not above suspicion. Again, maybe if her VP was Charlie Sheen I would toss my vote to her just for the laugh factor. As for working on fear, they both are doing it.

I choose love and always have.

There are some positives like you mentioned but I’m focused on the big picture. Thanks for the political laughs. If I could vote in this election I’d be undecided.

I don’t know anything about ‘apps’ and Trump is a train wreck that people can’t stop watching. There are some things I do know. Community is disappearing, where at one time we went next door and had a coffee with our neighbour and talked about local happenings, we now call hundreds or thousands of facebook friends…’our community’ and look at manipulated snapshots of their life and press ‘like’.. Instead of living life, we observe it, we take pictures of it and share our ‘wonderful life’ with anyone who has nothing better to do than stare at their device all day waiting for it to ‘beep’. We have become a society of instant gratification. We use bank machines 24 hours a day, we demand that stores be open 7 days a week. We have no patience because we are used to having what we want, when we want it. Watching people get all excited because someone ‘liked’ their latest selfie makes me sad…..way down deep inside, sad. Wake up people!! We live in a world full of wonder and populated with people who speak and have interesting things to say….and do. Put down your phone, talk to the person in front of you, smell the rose, don’t take it’s picture….remember to experience life….please. As for Trump….well I just hope that the circus that is the current Republican candidate will run it’s course. I think that is enough of my rant for the day. By the way, I am not against the internet or facebook, in fact I enjoy them…but….they are part of my life, not my entire life….moderation, moderation.
Happy Birthday Layla….I remember us sitting in your back yard eating watermelon on a hot day and talking about armomatherapy…..real food, real people, real conversation….thank you for that.

  6. Hi Terri, yes, we need to wake up and thanks for the birthday wishes and happy memory! I miss that tight community. Lost it when I moved to the U.S. and won’t find it here, at least not in this area. One day I’ll move to a place where are pockets of sanity left xoxo

  7. TW doesn’t have a smart phone but that game scares her. She’s read about all the rights you give up when you sign up. It’s scary. what’s even scarier is that people can pay to have those critters show up anywhere and they’re leading people to be mugged in dark alleys, by predator’s houses and into sacred places.
As for Trump, I think you know where we stand. TW’s FB timeline says it all. He should be in jail for a number of things including treason.

This is one time not having a smart phone might be a smart choice. Since I wrote this post, the Pokemon Go phenomena has mushroomed and I’m expecting it to get worse before people wake up.
