Mutant Veggies and Labor Day Blues

As I post and breathe new life into the defunct archives, it’s beginning to make sense to sometimes combine  two posts into one, like today. It’s good to see some pleasures don’t change! The blue hydrangea, while massively larger than in 2008 wasn’t cut back last fall and hasn’t bloomed this year, at least not yet.  It’s not often in life we get a chance to re-write history and I’m making the most of it. As Anais Nin once said, “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”

Do you agree? It’s the peak of corn season and nothing is better than a freshly husked ear of corn, lightly boiled and drenched in salted butter. Well, maybe a tomato, sun-kissed to sweet perfection. Even mutant versions like these veggies tasted like pure summer. Ah, the joys of organic gardening. The corn cob had a baby attached and the pointy tomato looked sharp but tasted sweet.
