The Fragrance of Memories: You Can’t Smell This On Instagram

What does Nashville smell like? I’m about to find out today as I wing my way to a pet bloggers conference called Blogpaws. Smell and memories are intertwined as a heartbeat and just as life-giving and powerful. The spring blooms of the past few weeks, came and left without fanfare. The tulips were documented here but what about the lily of the valley, the lupins, the lilacs? Their brief scent is a memory in a photo file. At this moment filed away in a dark corner of a cloud which may or may not ever see the light of day. It may be time to succumb to Instagram more often to stay current but I’m resisting. I’m pining for more analog and less digital which brings me to a quote from Truman Capote and a few  meager Instagrammish lilacs pics, already faded in scent and memory. What will an airplane, layover in Chicago and a Nashville hotel smell like with pets of all kinds? I’ll tell you next week.

The true beloveds of this world are in their lover’s eyes lilacs opening, ship lights, school bells, a landscape, remembered conversations, friends, a child’s Sunday, lost voices, one’s favorite suit, autumn and all seasons, memory, yes, it being the earth and water of existence, memory.

    1. It was way too brief a visit and feels a hundred years ago.
