Life Secrets: Trump, Pokemon Go and Stealing Joy.
Like millions of others, I watched the Republican Convention speeches with curiosity. Head-scratching curiosity filled with questions: how did we get to this juncture in history? What the hell is going to happen next? Why this, why now?
Those questions about Trump are equally valid about Pokemon Go. When something goes so big, so viral, to the tune of 10 million downloads of a game within days, it gives pause. Like millions of others, I downloaded the app, headed outside to the garden to figure out what the fuss was about. Within seconds of creating a cute, superheroish/feminist warrior avatar, little zombies appeared on my screen. Were my neighbors’ kids across the street playing? I found it instantly creepy and invasive. What scared me more was realizing I’m in the minority. I won’t be playing Pokemon Go anytime soon and here’s why.
My thoughts turned to Government surveillance conspiracy? Why stop at the CIA or the U.S., the game has users globally. The reach of global data mining is staggering. Imagine giving up control of your phone and camera and nearly all app permissions according to TechCrunch. This is no less than control of a New World Order. My suspicions quickly confirmed legal rights are being revoked and worse.
Was I the only one thinking that Pokemon Go and Trump shared something in common? Late to the party again. Oh boy, this is getting surreal
And this dear ones is how we get so distracted and zombified, we don’t know who to vote for, what is real and what really matters.
There is only one way to take back your power, your life and your true joy. The secret to life, happiness and everything worth knowing resides within. The secret is unstealable. It can’t be coerced, manipulated or diluted. No one can plunk down an AHA moment on a silver platter or a digital screen. The joy of a real AHA moment comes from experiencing it yourself, for real and not virtual.
