Here’s the funny part. I’ve done this day for years. The fire, the candles, the veil being thin, honoring the ancestors. The witch hats, I only wear on rare occasions. It simply isn’t black-and-white anymore. None of it.

I’ve written about it for many years and I thought what else is there to write about. Here’s just a few few

You’d think it would feel like the same old, same old by now. It never does. The traditions hold still, but I don’t.
The wheel keeps turning and I’m a different person every time it comes around. So the same ritual means something new each year, because I’m bringing a different life to it.
I’m also very aware of mortality these days. Samhain doesn’t let you look away from it, and honestly I like that. It makes the whole thing less abstract and more honest.
So tonight I’ll do what I always do, and it’ll be different anyway. Write down what you’re ready to release. Be specific. Then burn it. Whatever you’re carrying out of this year, let the fire have it.

May this new year bring you everything you want with intention.
